About Viton O rings
This type of O rings widely used and is the simplest form of seal that is unsurprising given that they are inexpensive, easy for mounting, and reliable. it is found in pumps, gearboxes, NASA space shuttles and engines. It is especially used in shaft seals, enabling rotary and linear movement in dynamic applications.
It has excellent resistance to high temperatures such as mineral oil, oxygen, ozone, fuels, aromatics, organic solvents and other chemicals. Low temperature is not favorable for the static application that is limited to -15° F. If you go with dynamic the lowest service temperature is between 5° F and 0°F.
Performance
It has the high performance factor in advanced fuel and engine systems and provides improved system reliability for extreme temperatures especially for transmission fluids, fuels, oils and acid condensates. It helps to extend the maintenance intervals and protects seal failure. For static applications, sometimes low temperature resistance is not preferred for traditional Viton O rings.   
Difference between black and brown color?
These two colors are functionally interchangeable. It depends on the formulation the one may slightly softer than other and black has carbon black. The Viton is a DuPont trademark for a specific fluroelastomer polymer that is made up of vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene copolymer known as Viton A resin. The magnesium oxide added as a proton acceptor to react with the small amount of HF those results from polymerization of the resin. Different manufacturers use different formulas, so it varies in color and its physical properties.
